About the Program
Musicheads is where hosts from The Current gather each week to share their opinions about some of the CDs that have recently caught their ears. It's their opportunity to stretch-out and be a bit more conversational - and opinionated - than usual.

We want to truly get you in on our discussions much more than before, by soliciting your feedback on our weekly opinion-sessions at Gather.com.

We might say that this week's show is constructed like a sandwich cookie: two massive commercial behemoths on the outside, with a soft, creamy filling of indie obscurity in the middle. Bill DeVille and company review Nas' new self-titled effort, as well as the latest from Coldplay, "Viva la Vida," and in between, they take a listen to the psychedelic soul big-band stylings of the Berlin-based 12-piece, King Kahn and the Shrines. Also, Bill asked the group, "What artist or band should have retired already?" Mark Wheat and Mac Wilson were Bill's guests. (s)

How do you say the title of the new Sigur Ros CD, "Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust"? Host Bill DeVille has been practicing. The panel also reviewed new releases including David Vandervelde's "Waiting for the Sunrise" and Silver Jews' "Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea." Bill also posed the question: what's your most hated classic-rock song ever? Mark Wheat and David Campbell were Bill's guests. (s)

The gang checked out CDs from three fresh-faced bands this week: Black Kids, with their debut full-length, "Partie Traumatic;" Delta Spirit's "Ode To Sunshine;" and The War On Drugs' "Wagonwheel Blues." Also, Bill DeVille posed the question: name a song you love despite the fact that the lyrics leave something to be desired. Bill's guests were Barb Abney and The Current's Assistant Music Director David Safar. (s)

The Hold Steady's latest, "Stay Positive" led the discussion this week, and as Fred Durst might say, the gang was in agreeance: the band has successfully matured, made a bid for even wider appeal, and still maintained their indie cred all in one fell swoop. Also reviewed: Wolf Parade's sophomore album "At Mount Zoomer" and Dr. Dog's latest, "Fate." For the show-and-tell segment, Bill DeVille asked, "Is there any specific song that makes you laugh out loud?" Bill's guests were Mac Wilson and The Current's Music Director Melanie Walker. (s)
